What is in a STARTER KIT? Included are three products that will put you on the path to a lifestyle that is energy efficient and conscious of the impacts that our choices have on our health, our economy, and our planet. The Starter Kit includes the following items:
Compact Florescent Light Bulb (CFL). CFLs use about 75% less energy than an incandescent bulb and last more than 10 times longer than the 750-hour life of a typical lightbulb. Using just one compact florescent bulb in your home will save money, energy, and will reduce pollution.
Insulated Outlet Cover. Each outlet on the outer walls of your home is an opening to the unheated / uncooled air between the inside of your home and the outdoors. Your new outlet cover provides insulation for this opening and is a safety cover. If you need safety covers to protect small children from electrical shock hazards, then installing the insulated outlet covers on exterior walls will serve a dual purpose.
Cloth Shopping Bag. The plastic shopping bags used in retail shops are petroleum-based products. In the U.S. we use about 32 billion plastic shopping bags each year. Not only is petroleum used as a feedstock for plastic bags but the manufacture and distribution of the bags also requires the use of fossil fuel. The management of this massive volume of waste plastic bags requires the use of petroleum to transport the waste.
Cloth bags will not always replace the convenience of a plastic bag. But, reducing your consumption of disposable plastic bags is a simple and meaningful way to shift your energy use!
The fourth item in your kit is a sample newsletter. Your purchase of the Starter Kit includes a one year subscription to the Energy Shift™ quarterly newsletter so that you can learn more about shifting energy consumption away from polluting, often imported, fossil fuels.
